VAAL TRIANGLE. - The legal battle between Hoërskool Overvaal, an Afrikaans medium school in Vereeniging and the Department of Education continued on Friday as the department presented it's arguments regarding the school's refusal to admit 55 English speaking pupils.

The Gauteng Education Department has rejected Hoërskool Overvaal's claim that there is not enough space to accommodate 55 learners saying they're simply being denied access on the basis of language. Advocate Kumbira Toma, for the department, told the court yesterday that the nearest two English high schools, General Smuts and Phoenix high schools, were full and further away. These factors informed the decision to place the pupils at Hoërskool Overvaal, which the department contended had the space. Judge Bill Prinsloo has postponed judgment to Monday.
