VEREENIGING. - Last night (17 January), the traffic police officers here led by the Member of the Mayoral Committee, clr Moshoaduba, staged a claim back our city in respect of road safety.
They issued out tickets to heavy duty trucks that are violating the road traffic rules in towns. It has become so uncommon to see these heavy duty trucks stopping, and being parked within the CBD's especially in Vereeniging against the road signs indicating the mass weight permitted.
It is a serious offense to park overnight in an undesignated areas, or drive in streets that are not designated for the mass weight carried by those trucks. This often leads to the collapse of the sewer and water infrastructure that is buried underground, which is the case in Vereeniging. Given the fact that the infrastructure is aging in our area, Vereeniging is the hardest hit, with sewer spewing in each and every street, and water pipe busrts that are rampant. Many trucks are even parked on islands for overnight to the detriment of the municipality infrastructure.
This campaign will be carried until normality returns to all our towns. It is the commitment of this new administration to bring back law and order in our lives. It is their commitment to claim back our environment through the clean our city campaign.
It is their commitment to serve the people with dignity and pride. These campaigns will be led to bring new purpose and belief to the municipality.
