SASOLBURG RAINBOW FOODS: POSITIVE FOR LISTERIA


SASOLBURG. - Listeria bacteria has been found here at the Wolwehoek Rainbow Chicken polony factory.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has issued a recall of all products from the Enterprise and Rainbow Chicken Limited companies.

Tests on samples from those factories have been found to have traces of the Listeria bacteria, a cause of food poisoning.

"Rainbow Foods Chicken Polony factory in Sasolburg has tested positive for a different strain of listeria which has left people sick. Rainbow Chicken Polony has now been recalled. All ready-to-eat products such as polony and russian sausages manufactured at the Rainbow facility in Sasolburg are being withdrawn," ssaid Dr Juno Thomas, head of the Centre for Enteric Diseases at the National Institute for Communicable Diseases.

This action is taking place in all Pick n Pay and Boxer stores. In addition, as a precaution, Pick n Pay branded chicken polony, manufactured by Rainbow, is also being withdrawn.
